Litava (Hungarian Litva - until 1892 Litava ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 760 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Krupina , a district of Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The village is located on the Krupinská planina plateau in the valley of the Litavica river . The 22.125 km² large municipal area is hilly. The center of the village is at an altitude of 420 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Krupina .
Officially, the municipality has no districts, but there are several individual farms in the municipality (Slovak regional lazy ).
Neighboring communities are Lackov in the north, Sucháň in the east, on a short stretch Horné Plachtince and Čebovce in the southeast, Cerovo in the south, Trpín in the west and Zemiansky Vrbovok in the northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1135 as Lytua . Thanks to the old chapel and later the church and parish, the village was a small cultural center of the area. It belonged to the estate of the Bzovík Castle , in the 13th century it belonged to the Litvay family . There was a toll station here in the 15th century, and a mill is mentioned in 1496. Litava was devastated during the uprisings of Thököly and Rákóczi. In 1828 there were 108 houses and 650 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, agriculture and sheep farming.
Until 1918 the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 782 inhabitants in Litava, of which 754 were Slovaks and one Magyar and one Czech. 26 residents gave no answer. 731 residents belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents to the Greek Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church and 14 residents to the Evangelical Church AB. Nine residents were non-denominational and 29 residents had no denomination.
