Hontianske Nemce (until 1948 Slovak "Nemce"; German Nemtze , Hungarian Hontnémeti - until 1907 Németi ) is a municipality in central Slovakia .
It is located in the Štiavnica valley at the foot of the Schemnitz Mountains , ten kilometers from Krupina . In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes the places Rakovec (incorporated in 1913) and Sitnianska Lehôtka (incorporated in 1990).
The first written mention took place in 1246 as villa Nympti , 1256 Nemeti is mentioned. The name probably refers to the German colonists who settled here in search of gold and silver. As a result of the Turkish invasion in 1543 and the decline of mining, the German-speaking inhabitants were assimilated by the Slovaks as early as the end of the Middle Ages. Due to its location, the place remained an important market place on the way between Hont Castle and the towns of Altsohl and Karpfen , so in 1729 it was granted the right to hold six market days a year.
Until 1918 the community in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia .
The catholic church from the 13th century, the Marian column in rococo style from the second half of the 18th century and the Calvary path from the first half of the 18th century are worth seeing.
The Slovak actor Marián Labuda was born in the village in 1944.
