Beša (Hungarian Barsbese - until 1907 Bese ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 639 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Levice District of, part Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Slovak Danube lowlands , more precisely in the north- eastern part of the Pohronská pahorkatina , in the valley of the Bešiansky potok . The center of the village is at an altitude of 161 m nm and is 15 kilometers from Vráble , 20 kilometers from Levice and 33 kilometers from Nové Zámky .
The settlement of Kulantov northeast of the main town, which was built after the First World War, also belongs to the municipality ; however, it is officially not part of the community.
Neighboring municipalities are Jesenské in the north, Horný Pial in the northeast, Dolný Pial in the east, Bardoňovo in the south, Trávnica in the west and Lula in the northwest.
history
There are several archaeological finds in the municipality of Beša: a large bronze find from the Late Bronze Age, plus the remains of a settlement from the Roman era. Also significant is a mammoth skeleton found in 1902 , which is now kept in the Slovak National Museum thanks to the work of Andrej Kmeť .
Beša was first mentioned in writing as Bese in 1292 and was owned by the local Bessey family , later the village belonged to the estate of the Farkas , Dilles , Hunyady and Kelecsényi families . In 1570 there were six houses in Beša according to a tax register. In 1573 the village was devastated by a Turkish attack, in 1634 it was tributary to the Ottoman Empire. In 1828 there were 55 houses and 388 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and winemakers.
Until 1919, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Beša had 650 inhabitants, including 363 Slovaks , 252 Magyars and two Moravians and two Czechs . 31 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
367 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 139 residents the Reformed Church, 25 residents the Evangelical Church AB, 14 residents the Jehovah's Witnesses, three residents the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident of the Pentecostal movement. 53 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.

The 2nd order road ( Palárikovo - Šurany - Kalná nad Hronom ) runs through Beša , with a junction towards Vráble. The place has a train station on the Nové Zámky – Zvolen railway line .
