Kalná nad Hronom ( Hungarian Kálna ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia . It is located in the Danube lowlands on the Hron River , about 8 km from Levice and about 35 km from Nitra .
The municipality was established in 1960 as Kálna nad Hronom by merging Kalná (then Kálna , first mentioned in writing in 1208) and Kálnica (then Kálnica ). It has about 2070 inhabitants, of which 76.07% are of Slovak , 16.16% of Hungarian and 5.05% of Roman descent (2001).
In 1990 the previously independent municipality Mochovce was incorporated. The largest company in the municipality is the Mochovce nuclear power plant operated by Slovenské Elektrarne .
