Žemberovce is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 1264 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Levice , a part of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located at the transition from the Ipeľská pahorkatina hill country (part of the Danube hill country ) to the northern Schemnitz Mountains . The Sikenica flows west of the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 221 m nm and is 13 kilometers away from Levice .
Neighboring communities are Bátovce in the north, Lišov and a short stretch of Súdovce in the east, Hontianske Trsťany in the southeast, Brhlovce in the south, Horša (part of Levice) in the southwest and Drženice in the west.
history
The present municipality was created in 1947 through the merger of the villages Dolné Žemberovce (Hungarian Alsózsember ) and Horné Žemberovce (Hungarian Felsőzsember ).
Horné Žemberovce was first mentioned in writing in 1256 as Semper , Dolné Žemberovce only in 1387 as Alsonsember . The former village belonged to the local family Zsembery and noblemen from neighboring towns. In 1828 there were 100 houses and 614 inhabitants or 41 houses and 249 inhabitants in both places who were employed in agriculture, weaving, viticulture and basket makers.
Until 1918/1919 the places in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia, or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 1265 inhabitants lived in Žemberovce, of which 1170 were Slovaks, nine Magyars, seven Czechs, six Roma and one Russian; one resident was of a different ethnicity. 71 residents did not answer. 741 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 312 residents the Evangelical Church AB, three residents each for the Greek Catholic Church and the Reformed Church and one resident each for the Brethren Church, the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Orthodox Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church Church; three residents were of other denominations. 104 inhabitants had no denomination and 95 inhabitants had no denomination.
