Demandice (until 1927 Slovak Demändice or Demanová ; German Demenditz , Hungarian Deménd ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia with 973 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Levice , part of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Ipeľská pahorkatina (part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands ) in the valley of the Búr brook , which flows into the Ipeľ a few kilometers downstream . The center of the village is at an altitude of 133 m nm and is 16 kilometers from Šahy and 19 kilometers from Levice .
history
According to archaeological studies, the municipality has been permanently settled since the Neolithic . Remains of the settlements of the Čaka culture (Young Bronze Age) and a Slavic settlement from the 10th-12th centuries are significant . Century.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1291 as Damian and then belonged to the Deméndi de Theszéri family . In the 18th century the owners came from the Grassalkovich family , in the 19th century it was Simonyi, Benyovszky, Palugyay and others. During the Turkish wars in the 16th and 17th centuries, the village was temporarily devastated. After the Battle of Austerlitz, Prince Mikhail Illarionowitsch Kutuzov lived in Demandice for three days. In 1828 there are 124 houses and 718 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and viticulture.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia . After the First World War, families moved from central Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was once again in Hungary from 1938-45.
The hamlet of Hýbec was first mentioned in writing in 1276 as a Hebrew . The old village has now become a single settlement.
