Dolný Pial (German Unterpill , Hungarian Alsópél ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 917 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Levice District , part of the Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located on the eastern slope of the Pohronská pahorkatina (part of the Slovak Danube lowlands), where it slopes down to the valley along the lower reaches of the Hron . The municipality is covered by brown and black soils and deforested except for small groves. The center of the village is at an altitude of 182 m nm and is 18 kilometers from Levice .
Neighboring municipalities are Horný Pial in the north, Bajka in the northeast, Ondrejovce in the east, Tekovské Lužany in the south, Bardoňovo in the southwest and Beša in the west.
history
Dolný Pial was first mentioned in writing in 1470 and developed from the original place Pial, first handed down in 1251 as Peel . The village was initially owned by local noble families, from the 17th century onwards by the Bercsényi and Hunyady families . In 1601 Dolný Pial had a country estate, a farm and 36 houses. In 1828 there were 179 houses and 808 inhabitants.
Until 1919, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 Dolný Pial was once again part of Hungary on the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, there were 961 residents in Dolný Pial, including 869 Slovaks , 38 Magyars , five Czechs , two Roma and one Ukrainian . 46 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
807 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 16 residents for the Reformed Church, eight residents for the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each for the Bahaium, the Old Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 59 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 65 inhabitants was not determined.
