Veľké Turovce is a municipality in southern Slovakia near the border with Hungary .
It was created in 1967 by the union of the municipalities Dolné Turovce (German Kleinthur , Hungarian Kistúr ) and Stredné Turovce (German Niederthur , Hungarian Középtúr ) and is located north of the city of Šahy .
The former parts of the municipality belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . They came back to Hungary for a short time from 1938 to 1945 through the First Vienna Arbitration .
