Hontianska Vrbica (until 1948 Slovak "Hontianske Ďarmoty"; Hungarian Hontfüzesgyarmat - until 1907 Füzesgyarmat ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 603 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Levice District , part of the Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands , more precisely on the western edge of the Ipeľská pahorkatina in a wide valley of the lower Hron . The connected, canalized rivers Perec and Sikenica flow on the western edge of the village . The center of the village is at an altitude of 179 m nm and is 14 kilometers from Levice and 24 kilometers from Šahy .
Neighboring municipalities are Mýtne Ludany in the north, Santovka in the northeast, Demandice in the east, Zbrojníky in the south, Jur nad Hronom in the west and again Mýtne Ludany in the northwest.
history
Hontianska Vrbica was first mentioned in writing in 1272 as Gormoth and was part of the estate of the Archdiocese of Gran . In the 16th and 17th centuries, the village suffered major damage as a result of the Turkish wars . In 1715 there was a country estate, 22 abandoned and 52 inhabited households. In 1828 there were 141 houses and 848 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and winemakers.
Until 1919, the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was once again part of Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration . In 1947 there was a population exchange, as a result of which the proportion of Hungarian-speaking residents decreased.

According to the 2011 census, 568 people lived in Hontianska Vrbica, including 371 Slovaks , 177 Magyars , seven Czechs and one Pole . 12 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
225 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 113 residents to the Reformed Church, 96 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 11 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, four residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one to the Old Catholic Church . 60 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 57 residents was not determined.
