geography
The municipality is located in the Danube Hills , a part of the Slovak Danube lowlands on the left bank of the Hron , between the main river and its arm, the Perec . Starý Tekov is nine kilometers from Levice .

history
The place is an old settlement area, with finds from the Stone Age, Hallstatt Age, other finds from the Maďarovce culture and a Slavic castle from the 9th century. The actual place with the Persch Castle was first mentioned in writing in 1075 as Bors . The Flachlandburg, which originally belonged to the royal estate, was the first seat of the county of the same name until it was moved to Lewenz Castle in the 14th century after the castle fell into disrepair . The place itself received city rights in 1240 after German colonists settled in the place; Altbarsch was never able to develop into a city, although it was referred to as such well into the 18th century. In 1241 it was largely destroyed in the devastating Mongol invasion . At the beginning of the 14th century the place belonged to the Archdiocese of Gran, from 1388 to the estate of Lewenz. The place was predominantly agricultural and some weaving mills were represented.
Until 1919 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia .
Culture
In the uneven years, the Tekovské folklórne slávnosti folk festival is held in the village . Since 2006, local battle events from World War II have been presented annually in a re-enactment event under the name of Boje na Hrone 1945 .
