Lok (Hungarian Garamlök ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 951 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Levice District , part of the Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located on the eastern slope of the Pohronská pahorkatina (part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands), where it descends to the valley along the lower reaches of the Hron . The municipality is covered by brown and black soils, is flat to hilly and deforested. The center of the village is at an altitude of 196 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Levice .
Neighboring municipalities are Veľký Ďur in the north, Kalná nad Hronom in the east, Bajka in the southeast, Horný Pial in the south and Iňa in the west.
history
Lok was first mentioned in writing as Luk in 1286 . From 1388 the village belonged to the dominion of the castle Lewenz . In 1601 there were 44 houses in the locomotive, in 1720 there were 26 taxpayers, including two craftsmen. In 1828 there were 89 houses and 589 inhabitants who were employed as farmers. In 1904 104 houses fell victim to a fire.
Until 1919, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants worked as field workers on the Schöller estate . From 1938 to 1945 Lok was once again part of Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration . In 1947 a population exchange took place here as part of the larger Czechoslovak-Hungarian population exchange.

According to the 2011 census, 1022 inhabitants lived in Lok, of whom 851 were Slovaks , 131 Magyars , seven Roma , two Czechs and one Moravian . Three residents indicated a different ethnic group and 27 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
640 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 94 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 65 residents to the Reformed Church, nine residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, five residents to the Greek Catholic Church, three residents each to the Baha'itum and three to the Evangelical Methodist Church, two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 139 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 58 inhabitants was not determined.
