Uhliská (Hungarian Bakaszenes , older Uhliszka ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 184 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Levice District of, part Nitriansky kraj heard.

The municipality is located in the south-western part of the Schemnitz Mountains . The center of the village is at an altitude of 610  m nm and is 20 kilometers from Banská Štiavnica and 28 kilometers from Levice .

Not far from the village, in the valley of the Rudniansky potok , there is a four-meter high waterfall called Uhliský vodopád .

Neighboring municipalities are Voznica in the north, Vysoká in the northeast, Dekýš in the east, Bohunice and Pukanec in the south and Brehy and Rudno nad Hronom in the west.

history

Michaelskirche

The current settlement was first mentioned in writing in 1554 and was part of the mining town of Pukanz. The inhabitants were employed as charcoal burners and supplied charcoal for Lewenz Castle in the 16th century.

Until 1918 the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants were employed as forest workers, weavers and manufacturers of wooden tools.

The present municipality was established in 1952 when it was separated from the municipality of Pukanec.

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 202 inhabitants in Uhliská, 185 of them Slovaks and one each Magyar , Russian and Czech . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 13 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

171 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents each to the Evangelical Church AB, the Greek Catholic Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and one resident to the Orthodox Church; two residents professed a different denomination. Twelve residents had no denomination and ten residents had no denomination.
