Voznica (1927–1948 Slovak "Hvozdnica"; German Woßnitz , Hungarian Garamrév - until 1892 Voznica ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 649 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Žarnovica , a district of Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The community is located on the western edge of the Schemnitz Mountains on the left bank of the Hron . The Richnava stream flows through Voznica . In addition to the actual village, the municipality also includes a part of the heavily forested Richňavská dolina . The center of the village is at an altitude of 219  m nm and is three kilometers from Žarnovica and nine kilometers from Nová Baňa .

Neighboring municipalities are Žarnovica in the west and north, Hodruša-Hámre in the northeast and east, Dekýš in the east, Uhliská in the southeast and Rudno nad Hronom in the south.

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1075 in the founding document of the Hronský Beňadik Abbey as Goznucha . Other old names are Geznecha (1237), Goznicze (1456), Goznycza (1503), Woznicza (1773). Initially, Voznica was the site of a toll station, which was moved to Žarnovica in 1320. The village belonged to the rulership of Barsch Castle , in 1391 to that of Revište Castle and in the 17th century the Bergkammer. In 1503 ten portals were recorded in a tax register, in 1828 there were 53 houses and 356 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as day laborers. Towards the end of the 19th century, cloth manufacture and linen weaving were common.

Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 678 inhabitants lived in Voznica, 660 of them Slovaks and one Czech. 17 residents did not provide any information. 508 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Orthodox Church; three residents were of other denominations. 52 residents had no denomination and 108 residents had no denomination.

Buildings

  • Roman Catholic church in late Classicist style from 1842
  • Not far from the place ends the 16.3 km long and between 1786 and 1872 Joseph II. The longest gallery in the mining area of Schemnitz ; the other end is at Hodruša-Hámre. The tunnel has been used to drain the mines to this day.
