Rainer Barzel

The Presidium of the 10th German Bundestag initially consisted of Bundestag President Rainer Barzel ( CDU ) and four deputies Annemarie Renger , Heinz Westphal (both SPD ), Richard Stücklen ( CSU ) and Richard Wurbs ( FDP ). After Barzel's resignation from the office of President of the Bundestag, Philipp Jenninger (CDU) was elected President of the Bundestag.

Election of the President of the Bundestag

The election of the President of the Bundestag took place in the constituent session of the Bundestag newly elected on March 6, 1983 on March 29, 1983. The electoral process was led by the senior president and former Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt . Since the Union continued to provide the strongest parliamentary group after the federal election, it traditionally had the right to appoint the President of the Bundestag. The Union parliamentary group leader Alfred Dregger proposed Rainer Barzel. This received 407 of the 509 votes cast, which corresponded to 79.96%.

Election of the vice-presidents

The election of the vice-presidents took place after a vote on the number of vice-presidents. The group of the Greens , newly represented in the Bundestag, applied for the number of vice-presidents to be increased to five so that they could also be represented in the presidium. The other groups refused, which is why there were still four vice-presidents. In contrast to the previous legislative periods, the Bundestag elected its vice-presidents in separate ballots and in secret ballot. The current vice-presidents Annemarie Renger (SPD) and Richard Wurbs (FDP) ran. In addition, the previous President of the Bundestag Richard Stücklen (CSU) and the SPD MP Heinz Westphal were proposed. The Greens nominated Christa Reetz in all ballots .
