Presidium of the 7th German Bundestag
The Presidium of the 7th German Bundestag consisted of Bundestag President Annemarie Renger ( SPD ) and the four Vice Presidents Hermann Schmitt-Vockenhausen ( SPD ), Kai-Uwe von Hassel ( CDU ), Richard Jaeger ( CSU ) and Liselotte Funcke ( FDP ). Annemarie Renger was the first woman and the first social democrat to hold office as President of the Bundestag.
Election of the President of the Bundestag
The election of the President of the Bundestag took place in the constituent session of the Bundestag, newly elected on November 19, 1972, on December 13, 1972. The electoral process was led by the senior president and former Federal Chancellor Ludwig Erhard (CDU). Since the SPD had become the strongest parliamentary group after the federal election, it traditionally had the right to appoint the President of the Bundestag. The SPD parliamentary group leader Herbert Wehner suggested Annemarie Renger. It received 438 of the 516 votes cast, which corresponds to 84.88%.
Election of the vice-presidents
The election of the vice-presidents takes place following the election of the president. The previous Vice Presidents Richard Jaeger ( CSU ), Hermann Schmitt-Vockenhausen ( SPD ) and Liselotte Funcke ( FDP ) as well as the previous President of the Bundestag Kai-Uwe von Hassel ( CDU ) had been proposed. The nominees were elected with a large majority in a combined ballot.
