Hronský Beňadik (until 1948 in Slovak "Svätý Benedik" - until 1960 "Svätý Beňadik"; German Sankt Benedikt , Hungarian Garamszentbenedek - until 1888 Szentbenedek ) is a municipality in western central Slovakia .
It is located in the Grant Valley , between Pohronský Inovec and the Schemnitz Mountains , about 45 km from Nitra and 17 km from Levice .
In addition to the main town, the village of Psiare , which was incorporated in 1971, belongs to the municipality .
The community is best known for the medieval Benedictine monastery . The Hungarian King Géza I founded the monastery in 1075 under the name Monasterium Ecclesia Sancti Benedicti . It has been a national monument since 1945.
