Župkov (until 1927 Slovak "Žubkov"; Hungarian Erdősurány - until 1892 Zsupkó ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 873 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Žarnovica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj . According to the order of the Slovak alphabet , Župkov is in the last place of all Slovak municipalities.
geography
The village is located in the Veľkopolská brázda furrow , which separates the Pohronský Inovec and Vtáčnik mountains , by a tributary of the Kľak . The municipality is accordingly mountainous and has a few individual farms in addition to the main town (Slovak regional lazy ). The town center is located at an altitude of 380 m nm and is nine kilometers from Žarnovica .
Neighboring communities are Ostrý Grúň in the north, Hrabičov in the northeast, Horné Hámre in the southeast and Píla in the west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1674 as part of the Revište Castle estate ; other sources only mention the year 1808 (as Zubkowa ). For a long time it was part of Horné Hámre and only split off in the 19th century. In 1828 there were 35 houses and 337 inhabitants who lived from mining and forestry, as the coat of arms still shows today.
Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On January 24, 1945, the residents of the Edelweiss anti-partisan unit were expelled and the village was plundered and set on fire; after the end of the Second World War, Župkov was rebuilt and electrified in 1956.

According to the 2011 census, Župkov had 829 inhabitants, including 766 Slovaks , two Czechs and one Magyar ; one resident indicated a different ethnic group. 59 residents did not provide any information. 695 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, seven residents to the Evangelical Church and one resident each to the Mormons, the Greek Catholic Church, the Jewish community, the Congregational Church and the Orthodox Church. 32 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 90 residents was not determined.
