Horné Hámre (until 1948 Slovak "Horné Hámry"; German Oberhammer , Hungarian Felsőhámor ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 660 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Žarnovica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The village is located between the Pohronský Inovec and Vtáčnik mountains in the valley of the Kľak river , at the confluence with the Pílanský creek . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 272  m nm and is three kilometers from Žarnovica and 13 kilometers from Nová Baňa .

Neighboring municipalities are Hrabičov in the north, Žarnovica in the east, Nová Baňa in the south, Malá Lehota in the west and Župkov in the northwest.

history

Horné Hámre was first mentioned in writing as Hamor in 1391 , at that time as part of the territory of the Revište Castle . By the end of the 15th century the village had 55 taxed houses; the inhabitants were originally lumberjacks and charcoal burners, later miners and, in particular, processors of the ores extracted in the surrounding, then Lower Hungarian mining towns. After the Dóczy family died out in the 17th century, the place was under the administration of the Schemnitzer Bergkammer.

In 1601 there were a mill and 68 houses in the village, in 1720 the village had four mills and 43 taxpayers, in 1828 there were 83 houses and 569 inhabitants.

Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Horné Hámre had 633 inhabitants, 611 of whom were Slovaks and 3 Magyars . 17 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

540 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 56 residents were non-denominational and 37 residents had no denomination.
