Hrabičov (German Hrabischhof , Hungarian Gyertyánfa ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 569 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Žarnovica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The village is located in the southern part of the Vtáčnik Mountains in the middle valley of the Kľak river . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 370 m nm and is nine kilometers from Žarnovica .
The whole municipality as such consists of 16 different settlements, which are scattered in the valley and surrounding mountains.
Neighboring municipalities are Ostrý Grúň in the north, Bzenica in the east, Žarnovica in the southeast, Horné Hámre in the south and Župkov in the southwest and west.
history
Hrabičov was originally a settlement of Horné Hámre and is mentioned as such in the 18th century. Hrabičov appeared as an independent village in 1828 under the Magyarized name Hrabicsó . In the same year the village had 51 houses and 348 inhabitants, most of whom lived as lumberjacks and to a lesser extent as farmers.
Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Also like the nearby communities Kľak and Ostrý Grúň Hrabičov was in January 1945 because of the support of the Slovak National Uprising of the partisan defense group Edelweiss burned and expelled the inhabitants.
After the end of the Second World War, the place was rebuilt.
The place name is derived from the Slovak name for hornbeam ( hrab ).

According to the 2011 census, 598 people lived in Hrabičov, including 543 Slovaks , 2 Magyars and 1 each from Poles and Czechs . 51 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
479 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 8 residents supported the Jehovah's Witnesses and 3 residents supported the Orthodox Church. 20 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 88 residents was not determined.
