Eta Leporis ( η Leporis , short η Lep , also 16 Leporis and Gliese 225 ) is a main sequence star of the spectral class F in the constellation Rabbit . At a distance of approximately 49 light years, it still belongs to the stellar neighborhood of the sun . With an apparent magnitude of 3.72 mag, Eta Leporis can be seen with the naked eye a little southwest of the bright star Saiph in the constellation Orion or west of Arneb ( Alpha Leporis ).

An infrared excess around Eta Leporis was observed with the Spitzer Space Telescope , which is attributed to a disk of debris that extends 1 to 16 AU from the star.
