Orovnica (German Hromitz , Hungarian Oromfalu - until 1907 Orovnica ) is a municipality in central Slovakia with 556 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Žarnovica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The village is located on the eastern slope of the Pohronský Inovec mountains on the middle reaches of the Hron , at the northern end of the Slovenská brána valley . The center of the village is at an altitude of 325 m nm and is seven kilometers from Nová Baňa and 19 kilometers from Žarnovica .
Neighboring municipalities are Nová Baňa in the north, Tekovská Breznica in the east, Hronský Beňadik in the south and Tekovské Nemce in the west.
history
Orovnica was first mentioned in writing as Varanza in 1209 and was owned by the abbey in nearby Hronský Beňadik. In 1565 the village became the estate of the Gran Chapter, in 1601 it became the property of the Dóczy family ; in the same year there were 19 houses in Orovnica. Due to ongoing problems with drinking water, the village was often uninhabited until the 18th century. In 1828 there were 44 houses and 284 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were forestry and agriculture.
Until 1918, the place in Persch County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1971 to 1992 Orovnica was part of the neighboring municipality Tekovská Breznica.

According to the 2011 census, Orovnica had 535 inhabitants, of which 503 were Slovaks , 2 Czechs and 1 Magyar and 1 Moravian . 28 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
453 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 3 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and 1 resident each to the Seventh-day Adventists and the Greek Catholic Church; 1 resident indicated another denomination. 33 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.
