Tekovská Breznica (German Bresnitz an der Gran , Hungarian Barsberzence - until 1902 Berzence ) is a municipality in central Slovakia .
location
It is located in the Grant Valley on the left bank of the river, at the foot of the Schemnitz Mountains , 5 km from the town of Nová Baňa .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1276 as Berzenche and belonged to the abbey of Hronský Beňadik . A Gothic castle was built by the Archdiocese of Gran at the beginning of the 13th century. In 1312 Matthäus Csák conquered the castle, but after his death in 1321 it returned to the diocese. The community's population engaged in agriculture, trucking, pottery, and forestry. Since the 16th century it belonged to the Archdiocese of Gran and then from 1776 to the Diocese of Neusohl .
