Dekýš (Hungarian Gyökös - until 1907 Gyekés or temporarily also Gyekis ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 192 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Banská Štiavnica , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The community is located in the southern part of the Schemnitz Mountains in a small basin in the source area of ​​the Dekýšsky potok , which flows into the Jabloňovka below Dekýš. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 484  m nm and is 14 kilometers away from Banská Štiavnica .

Neighboring municipalities are Vysoká in the north, Štiavnické Bane and Banská Štiavnica (Počúvadlianske Jazero district) in the northeast, Počúvadlo in the east, Jabloňovce and Bohunice in the south and Uhliská in the west.

history

The two churches of Dekýš

The current municipality was settled in the Stone Age, with a settlement of the linear ceramic culture . Finds of Roman objects and denarii from the 2nd century bear witness to a settlement in the time of the Roman Empire.

Dekýš was first mentioned in writing in 1270 as Gukes . In 1388 it belonged to the dominion of the Lewenz Castle , later to that of the Bergkammer. In 1554 there were 24 portals , in 1715 the village had a mill and 21 households, in 1828 there were 63 houses and 381 inhabitants who were employed as charcoal burners, cattle keepers and forest workers.

Until 1918 the place in Hont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture and work in the surrounding industrial plants were the main sources of income.

According to the 2011 census, there were 199 inhabitants in Dekýš, including 198 Slovaks . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .

178 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and eight residents of the Evangelical Church AB. Seven residents were non-denominational and six residents had no denomination.
