The Okres Banská Štiavnica (German historical district Schemnitz ) is an administrative unit in the central slovakia square kilometers with a population of 16,069 (December 31, 2019) and an area of 292nd
Historically, the district is mostly in the former Hont county , a small part in the north around the places Močiar and Podhorie belongs to the former Bars county , another small part in the east around the place Kozelník belongs to the former Sohl county (see also list of historical counties of Hungary ).
