The Okres Poltár is an administrative unit in central Slovakia with 22,074 inhabitants (2014) and an area of 476.2 km².
Historically, half of the district is in the former Nógrád county (southwest), the other half in the former Gemer and Kleinhont counties (see also the list of historical counties in Hungary ).
The communities of Pinciná and Nové Hony , which were first part of the Okres, were added to the Okres Lučenec in 2002 .
