Hrnčiarska Ves is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia , with 945 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Poltár , a district of Banskobystrický kraj . The name literally means "pottery village".

The community is located in the large Juhoslovenská kotlina basin on the Suchá brook , west of the divide between the lower parts of Lučenská kotlina and Rimavská kotlina . To the north of the village lies the hilly Revúcka pahorkatina , a lower part of the Slovakian Ore Mountains . The center of the village, situated at an altitude of 252  m nm , is 6 kilometers from Poltár , 21 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota , 24 kilometers from Lučenec and 90 kilometers from Banská Bystrica .

The municipality is made up of the municipality parts Maštinec, Pondelok and Veľká Suchá.

history

Hrnčiarska Ves was created in 1964 from the merger of the previously independent places Pondelok and Veľká Suchá.

The district Veľká Suchá was mentioned for the first time in 1286 as Szuha , while Pondelok did not appear until the 16th century, in 1515. The population there was engaged in the manufacture of roofing tiles and the pottery that gives it its name.
