history
Lučenec was first mentioned in writing as Luchunch in 1247 and consists of the districts of Lučenec , Malá Ves and Opatová (incorporated in 1966). Furthermore, the places Mikušovce (1966–1992), Vidiná (1971–1990) and Pinciná (1988–1990) were once part of the city. In the 17th century Lučenec was briefly occupied by the Transylvanian prince Gábor Bethlen and, like Fiľakovo, by Turks, in the 18th century the city was the main town of the Hungarian Neograd (Novohrad) county .
In the 19th century the Pest – Losonczer Railway was built, which connects the city with the Hungarian capital.
Until 1918 Lučenec belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . The city briefly returned to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 through the First Vienna Arbitration .
