Tibor Serly

Tibor Serly [ ˈtibor ˈʃɛrli ] (born November 25, 1901 in Losonc , Austria-Hungary , today Lučenec , Slovakia ; † October 8, 1978 in New York City ) was a Hungarian composer.

Serly studied at the Budapest Music Academy with Béla Bartók , Zoltán Kodály , Jenő Hubay and Hans Koessler . He was violist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the NBC Symphony Orchestra . From 1939 he worked as a freelancer.

Serly composed an orchestral, wind and string symphony , two orchestral suites , two viola concerts , a trombone concerto, a concerto for two pianos and orchestra, a rhapsody for viola and orchestra, an orchestral electoral, six orchestral dances and songs . He also completed the third piano concerto and the viola concerto by Béla Bartók after his death.
