Stará Halič (Hungarian Gácsfalu - until 1888 Gácsfalva ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia with 903 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Lučenec , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is also part of the traditional Novohrad landscape .
geography
The community is located in the northwest part of the valley Lučenská kotlina , itself part of the larger unit Lučenec-Košice Depression , on both sides of the creek Tuhársky Potok in the catchment area of the Ipeľ . The highest point is the mountain Sedem chotárov with 602 m nm. The town center is at an altitude of 252 m nm and is 11 kilometers away from Lučenec .
Neighboring municipalities are Gregorova Vieska in the north, Tomášovce in the east, Lučenec in the southeast, Halič in the south, Lupoč in the west and Polichno and Tuhár in the northwest.
history
In the second half of the 13th century there was a rectory in the village, but it was not mentioned in writing as Gaach until 1350 . At first the village was owned by the Tomaj family , later Lossonczy (1548) and in the 17th century by the Forgách family . In 1712 a large part of the population fell victim to a plague epidemic. In 1763 Stará Halič was given the right to hold a market four times a year. In 1828 there were 82 houses and 547 inhabitants who were employed as fishermen, carters, timber merchants and farmers. For the first there was a large pond in the local area.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there lived 656 inhabitants in Stará Halič, including 570 Slovaks , nine Germans , three Russians , two Magyars and one Czech and one Ukrainian each . 17 residents indicated another ethnic group and 53 residents gave no information about the ethnic group.
535 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 14 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, 11 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Greek Catholic Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 17 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 76 inhabitants was not determined.
