Veľké Dravce (Hungarian Nagydaróc ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 708 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Lučenec , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The community is located in the eastern part of the Lučenská kotlina basin (sub-unit of the larger Juhoslovenská kotlina ) on the Suchá river . The 9.5 km large municipal area is flat to slightly hilly and largely deforested. The center of the village is at an altitude of 198 m nm and is 17 kilometers from Lučenec and Rimavská Sobota .
history
Archaeological investigations have been carried out in today's municipal area after a settlement in the Neolithic period by the people of the linear ceramic culture .
The current place was first mentioned in 1246 as terra Draus ; other sources only indicate Daroch in 1350 . The name is derived from the Magyar word of Slavic origin daróc , which denoted a fur hunter. The village had several owners, including the Daróczy family . In the years 1554–1593 the village was under Turkish rule. In 1715 there were seven Magyar and one German households, and in 1720 there were eight Magyar households. In 1828 there were 79 houses and 706 inhabitants who lived on agriculture, cattle and horse breeding. At times there were also quarries in the area. B. a basalt quarry.
The place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and Slovakia. From 1938 to 1945 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Veľké Dravce had 688 inhabitants, including 371 Magyars, 196 Slovaks and 66 Roma. 55 residents did not provide any information. 559 residents belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, 14 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, seven residents to the Evangelistic Church, four residents to the Reformed Church and one resident to the Orthodox Church; one resident was of a different denomination. 31 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 71 residents has not been determined.
