Trenč (until 1927 "Terinč"; German Törinz , Hungarian Tőrincs ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia with 539 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Lučenec , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is also part of the traditional Novohrad landscape .

The community is located in the south-western part of the Lučenská kotlina basin , itself part of the larger Juhoslovenská kotlina unit , on the right bank of the Ipeľ , directly on the state border with Hungary . The center of the village is at an altitude of 181  m nm and is 14 kilometers from Lučenec .

Neighboring communities are Muľa in the west, Ľuboriečka in the north-west and north, Veľká nad Iplom in the north-east, Ipolytarnóc in the east, Litke in the south and Nógradszakál in the south-west.

history

Elisabeth Church

Trenč was first mentioned in writing in 1327 as Teurinch and was owned by various noble families. Between 1554 and 1593 the village belonged to the Ottoman Empire. In 1828 there were 67 houses and 516 residents who were employed as farmers and winemakers.

Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was once again part of Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

From 1973 to 1990 Trenč was part of the Veľká nad Ipľom municipality.

According to the 2011 census, 480 inhabitants lived in Trenč, including 191 Slovaks , 92 Roma and 63 Magyars . 134 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity.

325 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Greek Catholic Church, two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church, the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Pentecostal movement; one resident professed a different denomination. 15 residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 124 residents was not determined.

The 2nd order road 585 passes through Trenč between Lučenec and Dolná Strehová . Since 2011, the Rároš-Ráróspuszta border crossing has existed at the Rároš settlement across the border river Ipe to Hungary.
