Biskupice (until 1927 "Pišpeky" in Slovak; Fülekpüspöki in Hungarian ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 1,145 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Lučenec , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj and is also part of the traditional Novohrad landscape .
geography
The community is located on the edge of the Cerová vrchovina mountain range on the Belina brook ( Ipeľ river system ) about ten kilometers north of the Hungarian border. The center of the village is at an altitude of 209 m nm and is three kilometers from Fiľakovo and 19 kilometers from Lučenec .
Neighboring municipalities are Fiľakovo in the north, Belina in the southeast, Radzovce in the south and Ratka in the west.
history
The place originated in the 12th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1294 as Puspuky . The village got its name after long membership of the estate of the Archdiocese of Gran . Between 1554 and 1594, the village was part of the Ottoman Empire , a water pipe led from the municipality up to the Fileck Castle . In 1828 there were 74 houses and 789 inhabitants.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938–1944 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .
From 1971 to 1990 the municipality was part of the town of Fiľakovo.

According to the 2011 census, 1138 inhabitants lived in Biskupice, of which 810 Magyars, 231 Slovaks, 31 Roma and one Czech; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 64 residents did not provide any information. 953 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, eight residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Reformed Church, five residents to the Congregational Church, three residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, two residents to the Seventh-day Adventists and one resident to the Evangelical methodist church; one resident professed a different denomination. 49 inhabitants had no denomination and 108 inhabitants had no denomination.
