Dobroč (Hungarian Dabar - until 1907 Dobrocs ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 607 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Lučenec , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is also part of the traditional Novohrad landscape .
geography
The municipality is located on the western edge of the Slovak Ore Mountains , more precisely on the western edge of Stolické vrchy in the valley of the brook Vrbnický potok , a left bank tributary of the nearby Krivánsky potok . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 272 m nm and is 19 kilometers from Detva and Lučenec, respectively.
Neighboring municipalities are Podkriváň and Detvianska Huta in the north, Kotmanová in the northeast and east, Lovinobaňa in the southeast and Mýtna in the south and west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1393 as Dobrocha and was part of the dominion of the Divín Castle . The residents were mainly employed as shepherds, farmers and cattle herders. Two mills worked in the village, and in the 18th century there was also a small brewery. In 1828 there were 85 houses and 570 inhabitants.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Dobroč had 650 inhabitants, including 618 Slovaks , three Magyars , two Germans and one Pole . 26 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity.
362 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 190 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, 10 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, four residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident each to the Old Catholic Church, the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Reformed Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 32 residents had no denomination and 48 residents had no denomination.
