Rapovce (until 1927 also "Rapovec" in Slovak; Rapp in Hungarian ) is a municipality in the south of Slovakia with 939 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Lučenec , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .

The municipality is located in the Lučenská kotlina basin (part of the larger Juhoslovenská kotlina ) on the Mučínsky creek just before it flows into the Ipeľ near the border with Hungary . The Cerová vrchovina mountain range extends south of the village . The center of the village is at an altitude of 175  m nm and is seven kilometers from Lučenec .

history

Rapovce was first mentioned in writing as Rop in 1299 and belonged to various noble families. During the Turkish wars in the 16th century, the place was destroyed and rebuilt in the 17th century. In 1828 there were 57 houses and 496 inhabitants. In the 19th and 20th centuries there was a brown coal mine.

The village Demečer (mentioned in 1512 as Dewecher ), which was independent in the Middle Ages, belongs to the municipality, south of the main town, which was visited by the Turks in the 17th century and only rebuilt as a hamlet afterwards.

Until 1918, Neograd County, which is mainly Hungarian-speaking, belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then became part of Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938-45.
