Juhoslovenská kotlina

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Juhoslovenská kotlina ("South Slovak Basin ") is a basin located in southern Slovakia , which geomorphologically belongs to the Loschontz-Kaschauer Depression ( Lučensko-košická zníženina ) and thus belongs to the Inner Western Carpathians .

The basin is in the northwest of the Krupinská planina ("Karpferer plateau") and the Zvolenská kotlina ("Altsohler Kessel"), in the north by the Slovak Ore Mountains and Slovak Karst , in the east by the Hungarian border and in the south by Cerová vrchovina and again the Hungarian border.

The boiler is divided into three more units:

  • Ipeľská kotlina (Eipel Kettle)
  • Lučenská kotlina (Loschontz kettle)
  • Rimavská kotlina (Rimau cauldron)

Most of the basin is drained by the Ipeľ River, which flows from east to west and forms part of the border between Slovakia and Hungary . Some eastern parts of the area belong to the catchment area of the Rimava River .
