Podkriváň (up to 1920 Slovak "Trhanová"; Hungarian Divényoroszi ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 564 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Detva , part of Banskobystrický kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the extreme east of the Zvolenská kotlina basin on the upper reaches of the Krivánsky potok ( Ipeľ river system ), between the Javorie and Veporské vrchy mountains. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 444  m nm and is nine kilometers from Detva , 29 kilometers from Lučenec and 30 kilometers from Zvolen .

Neighboring communities are Kriváň in the north, Hriňová and briefly Detvianska Huta in the northeast, Dobroč in the east, Mýtna and Píla in the southeast, Divín and Budiná in the south and Detva in the west.

history

The present-day place was founded by the Wallachians in the early 18th century on the territory of the Divín estate and was first mentioned in writing in 1742 as Trhanova and Diviny-Oroszi . In 1828 there were 104 houses and 868 inhabitants who lived on the less fertile agriculture and animal husbandry. In 1894 the village reached its highest population to date (2,260 inhabitants).

Until 1918, the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

The hamlet Dolná Bzová east of the main town, which was the location of a glassworks until the 19th century, belongs to the municipality.

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 597 inhabitants in Podkriváň, 575 of them Slovaks and one German, one Russian and one Czech. 19 residents gave no information in this regard. 513 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 28 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Reformed Church, two residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Congregational Church. 28 residents were without a denomination and the denomination of 23 residents was not determined.
