history

Today's municipality was created in 1926 through the merger of the previously independent villages Vígľašská Huta (Hungarian Végleshuta ) and Kalinka (Hungarian Kálnok ).

The first-named place arose in the first half of the 18th century from a few individual farms around the local glassworks , which was built in the 17th century and was named Viglo Huta in 1654 because it was part of the estate of Vígľaš . In 1773 the name Vigles-Huta is mentioned. In 1828 there are 87 houses and 651 inhabitants. The eponymous glassworks closed around the middle of the 19th century, after which agriculture and cattle breeding were the main source of income for the residents.

Kalinka originated in the same period and was mentioned as Kalina in 1786 . Characteristic for the place was a sulfur mine under the mountain Lysec 960  m nm , which worked in the 19th century. In 1828 there are 30 houses and 230 inhabitants.

Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia. The parish had its peak before the Second World War, when 1,700 residents lived here in 1937 and there were three schools. Successive waves of emigration after the Second World War brought the population back to around 350.

Vígľašská Huta-Kalinka is the place where the mineral hauerite was found .
