He was the son of the Electoral Saxon Lieutenant General Rudolph Gottlob von Grünberg (1717–1793) and Charlotte Friederike von Bose (1722–1769), his siblings were the prime lieutenant and accountant Gottlob Wilhelm von Grünberg and Helene Caroline von Grünberg, the Johann Sigismund von der Goltz married.

Friedrich Rudolph von Grünberg rose to the position of chamberlain at the Dresden court . As such, it is already recorded in 1786 in the Electoral Saxon Court and State Calendar .

On September 20, 1785, he bought his mother-in-law, the widowed stable master Giesel Agnese Magdalene von Krahn, née von Münchhausen , her estate Kriegstedt near Bad Lauchstädt for 18,000 thalers. In 1778, his mother-in-law at the Lehnhof achieved the conversion of the Kriegstedt manor with the associated damage village from Mannlehn to Erblehn, which meant that these goods could also be inherited in a female line if no male heir was born.

In 1801, Friedrich Rudolph von Grünberg sold the bakery in Burgstaden, which belonged to the Kriegstedt estate, to the baker in Schotterey with the permission of the elector. Only two years later, on August 17, 1803, Grünberg separated from the Kriegstedt manor and sold it on to Christian Gottfried Weidlich, who previously owned the manor in Geiselröhlitz .

Hans Friedrich Rudolph von Grünberg retired to the Löbnitz manor (part of the castle), where he lived with his family until he died. He bought Löbnitz Castle on December 23, 1820 as a man's knight's estate for 125,000 thalers. From 1823 to 1847 his son Karl Friedrich Rudolph von Grünberg was enfeoffed with the castle. His sons Heinrich Friedrich Rudolph, Wilhelm Friedrich Rudolph and Hans Friedrich Rudolph bought the castle and manor Löbnitz from their father on July 28, 1847 with the outworks in Grünau, Seelhausen, Scholitz and the brickworks.
