Vladimir Maňka

Vladimír Maňka (born September 19, 1959 in Lučenec ) is a Slovak politician of the SMER .

Life

Maňka studied engineering. From 1983 to 1992 he headed the investment department of the mechanical engineering company Podpolianské Strojárne Detva , after which he sat on the board of directors. In the meantime, in 1989, he was an intern at the Ministry of Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering of the ČSSR . From 1992 to 1998 he was the managing director of a trading company, during which time he completed a management internship in 1995 as part of the USAID program of the United States government .

Maňka was from 1997 to 1999 chairman of the economic council of the post-communist party SDĽ . In recent years he has acted as deputy party chairman, after the merger with SMER, he also became deputy chairman there.

From 1998 to 2002 Maňka was a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic . From 1999 to 2005 he was mayor of Zvolen . He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 .
