Hrnčiarske Zalužany (Hungarian Fazekaszsaluzsány ) is a municipality in the southern central Slovakia of Slovakia with 862 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Poltár , a circle of kraj Banskobystrický .
geography
The village is located in the east of the Lučenská kotlina basin (part of the Juhoslovenská kotlina ) in the valley of the Suchá brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 220 m nm and is ten kilometers from Poltár and 15 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring communities are Hrnčiarska Ves in the west and north, Sušany in the east and Ožďany in the south.
history
The place probably originated in the 12th century and was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1323 (other source 1362) as Zalusan . The village belonged to the Jánoky and Jákóffy families , various little nobles in modern times. In 1828 there were 80 houses and 605 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture, the manufacture of clapboards and refractory bricks, but especially pottery .
Until 1918, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today's Slovakia. The tradition of pottery continues to this day with a production cooperative and a few private potters.

According to the 2011 census, Hrnčiarske Zalužany had 874 inhabitants, of which 810 were Slovaks, 15 Magyars, two Russians and Czechs and one German and one Rome. 42 residents gave no answer. 615 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, six residents belonged to the Reformed Church, 37 residents belonged to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents each belonged to the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Greek Catholic Church and the Reformed Church, two residents belonged to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident each to Judaism and one to the Orthodox Church; seven residents were of other denominations. 141 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 61 residents was not determined.
