Breznička (German Bersentz , Hungarian Ipolyberzence - until 1907 Berzence ) is a municipality in the southern central Slovakia of Slovakia with 743 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Poltár , a circle of kraj Banskobystrický .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Lučenská kotlina basin (part of the larger unit Juhoslovenská kotlina ) on the slopes of the Slovak Ore Mountains . It is traversed by the lower course of the Banský potok, which flows into the Ipeľ on the edge of the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 227 m nm and is five and a half kilometers from Poltár and 13 kilometers from Lučenec .
Neighboring municipalities are Rovňany in the north, Poltár in the east, Kalinovo in the south and west and Mládzovo in the northwest.
history
Breznička was built on the site of a Slavic castle from the 9th century and not far from remains of walls from the 12th and 13th centuries and was first mentioned in writing in 1279 as Berzenche . It belonged to various noble families, in 1548 the Berzenczy family , in 1770 the Okolicsányi family and then Bornemissza . During the Thököly uprising in 1682–83, the village was ravaged by the Turks. In 1828 there were 25 houses and 205 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and pottery. There was also a brick factory in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Breznička had 784 inhabitants, 725 of whom were Slovaks, three Magyars and three Czechs and one Moravian. 52 residents gave no information in this regard. 473 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 109 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, five residents to the Reformed Church, four residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Congregational Church. 97 residents had no denomination and 94 residents had no denomination.
Buildings
- Roman Catholic Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary in late Baroque style from 1785, the interior, however, is designed in a classical style
- Protestant church in late classicist style from 1862
traffic
Breznička has a train station on the Lučenec – Utekáč line with several daily train connections. In the station, the short branch line branches off to the Breznička – Katarínska Huta line , but without passenger traffic.
The 2nd order road 595 ( Tomášovce –Poltár– Kokava nad Rimavicou ) runs through the village and connects to the 1st order road 50 ( E 58 ) ten kilometers from Breznička . A 3rd order road branches off in the village towards Cinobaňa .
