history
The first written mention of Kochou as a place with a church and mill took place in 1279. At that time, German miners in particular drove the mining ahead here, and in 1549 the place was conquered and occupied by the Turks, which the population suffered greatly. Over the centuries, the population was mainly engaged in agriculture, cattle breeding, the production of pit wood and charcoal burning. Two paper mills (1773 and 1793), a brewery (1785), an iron hammer (1802) and a glass-blowing factory (1802) were also built in the village. Since 1908 there has been a connection to today's Lučenec – Utekáč railway line , and in 1911 the entire village burned down.
Until 1918 the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary , after that the place came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993. In 1993 the north-western municipality of Utekáč also became independent.
