Utekáč ( Hungarian Újantalvölgy ) is a village and a municipality in the Poltár district in the Banskobystrický kraj region in Slovakia .

history

Utekáč

The municipality of Utekáč is located in the middle of Veporské vrchy in the narrow valley of the Rimavica River . The name is derived from the flight (Slovak útek ) of King Béla IV from the Tatars.

The first written mention of Utekáč comes from 1593. The development began with the arrival of the prince Ferenc Forgách . He built some glassworks here. The largest of the glassworks, Clara , still exists today. The original inhabitants of the glassworks settlement were families of master glassblowers from Germany, Hungary, Bohemia and Moravia.

The more recent story begins on January 1, 1993 - the community became independent. Before that, Utekáč was an industrial part of the municipality of Kokava nad Rimavicou, which lies further south-east . The industrial and residential construction today reminds Utekáč more of a city. The districts of Salajka , Drahová , Havrilovo , Dlhá Lúka , Ďurkovka , Bánik nad Rimavou and Cisársko are typical hamlets with original architecture. In the Salajka district there are Finnish wooden houses. The castle of Count Forgáč and the chapel of St. Anton Paduánsky, which serve as the burial place of the Kuchynka family - owners of the glassworks, are the dominant features of the village. There are interesting chapels in the districts of Drahová and Havrilovo.

The Trio Kubincovci came from the Utekáč municipality . They were well known shawm blowers and also made the shawm .

Since 1909 Utekáč has been the terminus of the Lučenec – Utekáč railway line . During the Slovak national uprising in 1944 there was heavy fighting in the local area. A memorial to the war dead in the community park and in the Nikolaj-Khmelnický valley with three memorial stones commemorates these events.

The area offers good conditions for tourists, mushroom pickers and anglers. The municipality has a favorable location for developing tourism. Skiing and ski hiking are possible in winter. The ski lifts are located in Utekač and in the vicinity.
