Ožďany (Hungarian Osgyán ) is a municipality in southern central Slovakia .
location
It is located in the eastern part of the Lučenská kotlina on the Suchá river, on the main road (name: I / 50, European route 58 ) between Lučenec (20 km to the west) and Rimavská Sobota (11 km to the east).
history
Although there was already a settlement here in the 13th century, it was first mentioned in 1332 as Osyan . A castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century. It was conquered by the Hussites in 1452 and belonged to the Bakos family since 1460 . In 1604 it was burned down by imperial troops; A fort was built on the remains. The village itself was an agricultural settlement. After 1786 the locality of Šranky was incorporated.
Until 1919 the village in Gemer and Kleinhont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary , after which it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration , it belonged again to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993.
Attractions
- Renaissance castle from the 17th century, built on the ruins of the Gothic castle. Today in a decaying state.
