Hrachovo (Hungarian Rimaráhó - until 1907 Ráhó ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia with 819 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj and is part of the Gemer region .
geography
The municipality is located on the upper course of the Rimava in the southern part of the Revúcka pahorkatina hills (part of the Slovak Ore Mountains ). The town center is located at an altitude of 273 m nm and is 11 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota and 14 kilometers from Hnúšťa .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1353 as Hrachou , but according to written sources it was founded in the 13th century. In the late Middle Ages the village was owned by the Jakoffy family , after which it belonged to various nobles. The castle is documented in 1416 and was a border fortress against the Turks in the 16th and 17th centuries. During the Rákóczi uprising , the castle was badly damaged and gradually demolished until the 20th century.
In 1828 there are 66 houses and 514 inhabitants in Hrachovo.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.
