Rimavská Baňa (Hungarian Rimabánya ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia , with 532 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the upper valley of the Rimava River at the confluence with the Rimavica on the right bank and is in the Revúcka vrchovina mountains , a sub-unit of the Slovak Ore Mountains . The center of the village is at an altitude of 275 m nm , while the " local mountain" Sinec ( 917 m nm ) rises northwest of the village. Rimavská Baňa is seven kilometers from Hnúšťa and 17 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
history
Rimavská Baňa probably originated in the 12th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1270 as Bana . The name indicates the previous mining activity. Until 1334 the place belonged to the Archbishop of Kalocsa , in the 15th century it belonged to Hajnáčka Castle and in modern times to various landowners. An iron ore mine and an ironworks were active in the 19th century. In 1828 there are 68 houses and 486 inhabitants. After 1918 the main source of income for the inhabitants was agriculture.
