Klenovec (German Klenowetz , Hungarian Klenóc ) is a municipality in central Slovakia .
geography
Klenovec is located in the Veporské vrchy , part of the Slovak Ore Mountains and on the Klenovská Rimava river , a tributary of the Rimava . Above the village there is a small reservoir ( vodná nádrž Klenovec ) and through the large cadastral area the village extends to the mountain Klenovský Vepor ( 1338 m nm ), which is located 15 km northwest of the town center. The town of Hnúšťa is 6 km to the east, the district town of Rimavská Sobota 30 km to the south. Up to the regional capital Banská Bystrica to the west, approx. 70 km.
history
Klenovec was mentioned for the first time in 1340. In the Middle Ages the place belonged to the estate of the Pirsenstein Castle (Hajnáčka), after which it belonged to the Kubínyi family from 1591 until serfdom was abolished in the 19th century. The community is also associated with the Slovakian robber leader Juraj Jánošík , as he was caught here with his friend Tomáš Uhorčík in the spring of 1713 and executed on March 18, 1713 in Liptovský Mikuláš .
Until 1918 the place belonged to Gemer and Kleinhont County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia .

According to the 2001 census, 93.1% of the population is Slovak; there are also some Roma (5.9%). More than half (52.9%) of the population are Protestant, in addition 26.6% stated their denomination as Catholic and 15.6% described themselves as atheists.
