Blhovce (Hungarian Balogfala or alternatively Balogfalva ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia with 792 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj and is part of the Gemer region .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Cerová vrchovina mountain range in the tectonic valley of the Gortva river . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 218 m nm and is 16.5 kilometers from Fiľakovo and 24 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
Neighboring municipalities are Čierny Potok in the north, Hodejov in the northeast, Gortva and Hodejovec in the east, Hajnáčka in the south, Šurice and Čamovce in the southwest, Šíd in the west and Konrádovce in the northwest.
history
Blhovce was first mentioned in writing in 1240 as Boglku . In 1276 the village was owned by the Aba dynasty , in 1427 the village , then called Balogfalva , belonged to the Jolsvai dynasty , but then came under the rule of the Fileck Castle . In the 16th century, the Feledy and Perényi families ruled the town. During the Turkish wars, Blhovce was affected by Ottoman troops and in 1683 by Polish-Lithuanian troops. It was not repopulated until the first half of the 18th century. Until serfdom was abolished, the re-established village was owned by the Koháry and Coburg families . In 1773 there were 19 settlements in the village, in 1828 there were 73 houses and 610 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1944 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

According to the 2011 census, Blhovce had 791 inhabitants, including 480 Magyars , 130 Roma , 109 Slovaks and three Czechs . 69 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
654 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 14 residents to the Reformed Church, eight residents to the Pentecostal Movement, four residents each to the Jehovah's Witnesses and four residents to the Evangelical Church AB, and one resident each to the Baha'i, to the Evangelical Methodist Church, to the Greek Catholic Church and to the Orthodox Church; five residents professed a different denomination. 33 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 65 residents was not determined.
