Rimavské Janovce (Slovak 1927–1948 "Jánošovce" - until 1927 "Janošovce"; Hungarian Jánosi ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia , with 1,358 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Juhoslovenská kotlina basin (literally the southern Slovak basin), sub-unit Rimavská kotlina on the Rimava river , which bypasses the place in a semicircle to the west. The town of Rimavská Sobota is located six kilometers north of the town center.
history
Rimavské Janovce was first mentioned in writing in 1221 as Janus . The settlement was the property of a Benedictine abbey that perished during the Reformation; In 1427 there are 33 portals listed here. After that, the place belonged to different landowners. In 1837 the place had 1276 inhabitants, who were mainly engaged in agriculture and tobacco growing.
