location

It is located in the Cerová vrchovina mountain range , in the Gortva valley . The nearest towns are Fiľakovo (13 km to the northwest) and Rimavská Sobota (25 km to the north). The place has a train station on the Zvolen – Košice railway line .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1245 as Danuskue . The village developed from a settlement below the Hajnáčka Castle ( Hrad Hajnáčka ), which was the seat of a manor. In the course of the Turkish Wars , the castle was occupied twice by the Ottomans - 1545/1546 and 1645–1649 - and fortified several times. It fell into disrepair since the 18th century and has been in ruins ever since.

Until 1919 the village in Gemer and Kleinhont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary , after which it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitral Award , it belonged again to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993.

population

According to the controversial census of 1910, the municipality was a purely Hungarian village with 830 inhabitants. According to the last official census of 2001, of the 1164 inhabitants, 86.3% were Magyars and 12.5% were Slovaks. 97.8% of the population stated that their denomination was Roman Catholic .
